Removing stainless rivets

I need some basic advice about how to remove a stainless rivet without damaging the original hole so a new rivet can be installed later. What size and type of drill bit is used, and how far down does the drilling have to go to allow removal? Thanks.

chose a drill bit one size larger if you have a set (up to 1mm) than the hole in the middle of the rivet and work your way up if the head doesn't come off. It will all become clear soon enough.

Yep that's it. Drill until the head of the rivet separates from the remainder of the rivet (it'll be around the drill bit) You may need to drive the remainder of the rivet through the hole with a center punch and hammer.

I watched a really skilled guy do it once, he just revved up that drill and punched it right in there. In, out, really fast.
