Rear block?

Was watching this youtube video and saw that he has a block on the bridle instead of just a trigger shackle. Is there any real benefit to this?

I've used that (nice little block!). To me, it seems to work no better than a plain snap hook and it's less convenient.

I'am a bitt new so what type of harken is it? Also can it be used as a block?
It IS a block and as LAuman already stated, there's no need for it.

PS: You don't even need a snap hook at the end of the sheet. Many racers just tie the sheet to the bridle with a bowline.

Wavedancer nailed it.
. . . but to close the loop, it's a Harken 234. I'm now using it for something else.
In the past, I've used a bowline on an old canoe rig. It didn't slide well, but the traveler was a long piece of line. It would probably work well on the 'fish's ss cable. Snap hook is quicker if you're not a fast bowline-tier.
