Check using a bathroom scale. Does it weigh more than 130 pounds?

Sunfish are designed and built to be very sturdy: 'Heaviness' is an unfortunate side effect.

Sunfish do, however, have a yellow adhesive-foam inside that acts like a sponge--slurping up every drop of water that enters or condenses into the hull's interior. (Some Sunfish have more yellow foam than others). If you'd owned a Snark sailboat previously, they don't have this "heaviness" problem. ;)

I'd suggest a forum search for drying-out your hull.

 
Your 1971 hull should weigh around 139 pounds.

If your boat is well over 139 then it has water entrapped in the internal expanding adhesive foam (yellow) and/or the structural foam blocks (white)
