Pictures - Floatation and the Inside

Attached are pictures showing the type of floation in my 1990 constructed Capri 14.2. After reading several articles I was curious as to the condition of the foam floatation some people have mentioned. To my surprise, my boat did not have foam, but plastic floats. The overall construction looks very solid and the inspection did give me an appreciation for using a good marine sealant as I reassemble all the rigging.

The pictures should appear as follows: 1) bow, 2) mast support, 3) Starboard bulkhead, 4) Cuddy bulkhead, 5) Port bulkhead, 6) floatation (picture taken through the round port holes in the bulkhead - there are several floats on each side 7) center hull support. I am considering adding a few more floats in the foward section ... minimum added weight and and extra margin of safety for floatation

Outstanding, I see about four plastic floats. Is that what you see? Are these floats loose inside the boat? How in the world did you get inside the bow to take those pictures?

Just figured out how to properly post pictures. What you see is a preview. To see better pictures..without writing you need to log in and click on control panel, then manuver to the left tool bar and click to open the proper album. Once in the album, click on the picture. I have one picture in a larger format just to try it out.

Those look like home brewed bulkheads my friend... my 1986 mod 1 did not have those (but probably should have to support the seats!). However, the floatation did not move on my mod1 (I won't go into how I know), but suffice to say, i think the floatation is glued down somehow.

Anyway... cutting into those bulkheads is likely NOT an issue, as they didn't exist at ALL on mine. I would recommend you just make the opening wider, not remove the bulkheads though.

looks like mine

I have a 1989 Mod2 and those bulkheads look similar to mine. Although, yours are sealed around the edges, while mine are open around the seams.

I removed the sealed box and looked around the corner, and had the same with the holes in it. Mine looks to have a large single airbag underneath each bench.

My 1992 Mod 2 has fiberglass bulkheads that are not attached at the bottom. Anyone else have these?
