I was lucky enough to get this Sunfish today. Free. I traveled 1 hr 20 min for the hull. Garage stores for over 10 years. Apprear to be in good condition. News a few fixes. BONUS ! When I got there he showed me to the mast and Booms. There is an Intact functioning Depersia Bailer.

Good deal! ;)

Somebody did you a favor by painting over the original maroon gelcoat finish. Back in the 70s, no manufacturer could keep the colors red and maroon from fading.

I think yours is a 1971 or older. I got one identical for $150--had to drive about an hour to pick it up and cartop it back home. I owned it about a week, when I sold it through Craigslist to the eye doctor I'd seen that week! He sent pictures of his launched "new" Sunfish, with his boys all over it. :)

Nice score, it’s a 1968. I picked up a free ‘67 last month- #45953. Needs plenty of work but is complete. Mine has double deck drains- one on port and one on starboard. Does your boat have two deck drains, too? Trying to determine what years did that- later boats have just one.

Enlarge today's picture (with the two Sunfish) and you'll see where the glossy paint has worn away. It's showing areas of faded gelcoat. The gelcoat can be shined-up, but the shine may not make it through one season.

I am planning to wax the hull. I surface. I was hoping to save the original colors for a while. I am afraid abrasives will take it off in area. This one will be a clean it up and sail. I will post a pic after the waxing.
