Minifish Cockpit Question

Here's an odd one. I just purchased an old Minifish project boat. In the cockpit, there is a well molded in where the bailer should have been but there is no bailer and no evidence
that there was ever a hole for one. I thought maybe the previous owner glassed over the hole but she bought the boat new and said it never had a bailer hole. I wonder if this was a factory second or maybe a prototype without a bailer. What say you AMF geeks?

Searched this topic before posting and found I’m not the only one with a Minifish with no bailer- there are at least 2 of us!
I scored a beautiful Minifish today. The first guy foolishly didn’t show up and I was waiting in the wings. It must be an early one- before the hull ID was imprinted in the transom, so early 70’s. There is a plate with serial number on the deck, but no timeline that I’m aware of for the Minifish. It’s nice and light and if the rain holds off I’ll take it out this weekend

BB,

If you think you want a bailer assembly for your new Minifish I happen to have one, a metal DePersia unit that I salvaged off a damaged beyond repair Mini hull. It has a longer than average threaded shank as it mounts on the bottom of the keel. Do not install a plastic bailer as, being keel mounted (and not odd to the port side of the keel, they always crack/break.

Alan,
Since this Mini never had a bailer or even a hole for one I’m going to keep it as it is- clean and original. Plus I know what a De Persia bailer sells for- nearly as much as I paid for the boat!
This is the third Mini in my fleet. I had four and gave one to my sailing friend for her birthday. I just love the little boat! I love my Sunfish too, of course, but find the Mini is my go-to more often because it’s so light and easy and I’m not getting any younger.
I know… how many boats can one girl sail? I’ll let you know when I get there! ⛵
