Merrily Against the Wind and Preparing My Boat
Preparing my boat
Our first club race is this Sunday. On Tuesday John cut a hole in the deck of my Laser to install the port that we bought. He used a drill to start the circle, and then cut the rest with a jigsaw. It came out very well. He decided to protect the edges of the foam with epoxy, and that is still curing. Then we figured out that it takes at least 7 days for the 5200 marine adhesive to cure. My boat is not going to be ready to sail on Sunday, so I’m going to use John’s new (to him) boat. I hope that when we stood out in 15 degree F temperatures and evaluated the boat this past December, that we didn’t miss any critical damage. We’re bringing it home from storage tomorrow.
I also examined my centerboard today and there is a big ding on the bottom leading tip, with a chunk sort of gouged out but still hanging on. I’ll file that down, and I bought some auto body filler today to smooth it over, like the instructions said that came with the boat. Hmmm. . .I wonder how long that takes to cure?
The weather is only just warming up so that we feel like doing this work now.
