Hey
after looking at lots of pictures of lasers i have noticed they sometimes have a coloured strap looking thing on the lower mast between the boom and the vang.
Can anyone tell me what it is and what it is for.
I have an idea it is tape :S

In some regattas, Lasers have a colored band on the mast there to indicate which fleet they are in. For example if there are so many boats that they need to run a qualification series with half the boats racing in each heat, then they will usually divide the boats into four fleets and do a round robin series where each fleet races every other fleet. Or at Masters regattas they will use the colors to indicate the different age groups.
