Mast step

Right, up north the sailing season is definitively over, just waiting for the snow now... time for winter boat projects. (plural that is!)

Several jobs to be done to refurbish the old laser, thanks to the information found here we are well prepared. Will keep track of project and photos for you bunch.

Here's one item where we still need your help and advice:

At the mast step (which has been rebuilt and resealed as per info found in this forum) there's quite a bit of loose (to me it seems) between the mast and mast step hole. (See pictures) is this normal? if not, any recommendations on the possible fix?

Thanks to all once more,

Ghislain

That amount of tolerance looks pretty normal to me. All of my boats have had significant gaps around the mast, from the brand new one I have a few years back to my first boat which was a 75,000 series.

Agree with Paul.
BTW, there is always going to be some space because the mast is round and the tube is oval (at least at the top). Also consider that the mast has to rotate freely.
