umm, i personally have never had this problem, nor heard of it, so don't look at me 
I Know that at some places you could get a mast step repair kit but I have heard they are fairly expensive. If there is a crack on the inside or it is leaking, applying some epoxy and sanding it smooth should do the trick. Another thing to try is cutting an inspection port right near it (pefferably right in front) so you can take a look around it from the inside of the boat. This will give you a range of options to work with. But you shouldn't go spending a lot of money on a new step repair kit if you don't need that. As a teenager thats short on cash like myself, sometimes you have to rely on your resourcefulness and you could always check out drlaser's FAQ section for help.

drLaser combined with your local laser dealer/fibreglass company/boat yard should ensure a good repair....
