Mainsheet block issue

My 1977 AMF built Sunfish does not have this block, shown below, installed. All it has is a little downward pointing hook in its place. Is this normal for this vintage boat? Im assuming you hook the line under this hook while sailing. Correct?

Thanks,

Joey

this is 100% normal for an older boat. if you wish to change over to a block you can simply get an eye strap and put it right in front of where your hook is on the cockpit lip. drill through the fiber glass and then through bolt it with stainless bolts and lock nuts. im sure your knees will thank you if you convert.

I've got a 3 inch scar in my knee from that &^$#$% mainsheet hook. Figure an IIRC 009 Harken ratchet block, eyestrap, stainless bolts, back up washers, nylock nuts and stand up spring will run about $30-$40. And then pull that hook off. Your knees will thank you.

Sweet, thats good to know. I will convert at some point. But, for now, Im off to sail the thing for the first time!
