Looking for good condition Sunfish (complete or hull) in NYC area

Hi all

I am looking for a Sunfish in good to great condition to race in the area of New York City / North Jersey:

- Primarily:
- dry, light hull
- post 1997 (Vanguard or Laser as the manufacturer) preferred
- clean gel coat, no meaningful cracks, no questionable Bondo repairs, etc...
- ready to race or close to: some limited work OK if boat is dry.

- Preferably but not necessary :
- straight and complete mast, boom, ...
- fiberglass daggerboard (class legal ideally),
- preferably fiberglass rudder but wood OK (class legal ideally as well)
- It is OK if sail is damaged or missing (but a crisp race sail would be great)
- All of these can be bought separately easily, so it's all negotiable

There is a guy up in Sloatsburg (sp?), NY near West Point not too far from you who sells used Sunfish of this type. He probably has what you are looking for in your price range. Here's a recent Craigslist ad. of his: Classic 14ft Sunfish - Red/White/Blue - boats - by owner - marine sale

The Dinghy Shop in Amityiville, LI sometimes has used race grade Sunfish and new boats sailed one time at thw Worlds Regatta. Here is their website:

I think they are harder to find in the offseason. Always seems like more boats coming to market in the spring. That is probably also when the sellers above get more inventory. But I'd keep looking. If one comes up this time of year, you should be able to get a good price - not many shoppers for sailboats in the winter in the north. Keep an eye on Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace and even eBay. Right now there are a couple boats up in New Jersey on eBay for sale, and the prices are way too high - used boat prices have gone up, but if you search you will eventually get what you want.
