Life Jacket Recommendations?

I know its been rehashed several times, but here's a twist. What does anyone recommend for a life jacket for old guys, let's just say over 45. The old PFD is sunburned and decomposing.

Speaking as a fellow "Old Guy" who also needs a new PFD. I tried a Sailus PFD today for the first time and it is very comfortable and I sailed for about 3 hrs with it. Its even more comfortable than my Sterns from 1974. The price is about $135 Cdn.

Hi,
from the former discussions here at TLF, I remembered this two builders for PFD´s:

Seach there for "PFD"

But, of course, there are a lot alternatives and not to count here.

Although I live on a planet called Europe and you, I guess, are on the on the planet "NA" which is far away from me, I try to advice my favourites or the life-jackets, that are the here to find [sorry, it´s all in German language there, but this side only should demontrate what sort of jackets I wear as an app.-master with 210 lbs: The Marinepool "lake pro soft", if I sail under control (f.e.: a coach) and if I sail alone or on the open sea, I wear the Marinepool "Europe"]:

I think such sorts life-jackets are also to find in NA and they are good enough for Laserites in their best years of sailing as a app.-master or master or GM etc.

I can personally say, Salus PFD's are the most comfortable, and overall best PFD I've ever worn. Their a little pricey ($130-$140 CAD), but in my opinion definetly worth it. There are so many places to adjust it to your body, it's great. After ten minutes on the water, I forget I'm even wearing it.

Lots of people (about half) around here have them, that in itself says something good.

As a fellow master, IMHO besides comfort while out of the water, you really need to make sure whatever you use doesn't restrict or make it difficult for you right the boat and get back in after a capsize. The models with thick foam in front can hinder you in this regard

Since, the early 70ties, when I began my active racing period (ended in the mid of the 80ties), there was allways a hot discussion wether to use a real lifesaver-jacket which gives you the chance to survive during the time where "your lamps are blown out" (because the boom heavy knocked our head during a sudden-gybe in Force 6-7) and the arrival of the waterrescue-powerboat, or playin´ the cool one, who says," hey I´m using a PFD wich suits perfect and makes me real fast because it´s sooo flat and is classrule-conform / everywhere where "I" race the boys from the life-aid are only 30 seconds away with there boats - no need for a fat bouyoancy-aid" etc. etc.etc.

I think, better use a fat bouyoancy-aid then none and of course I´m also a bit with Greg, better use a suitable PFD then fall out of the boat in reason that the dam-fat-jacket surprisely hang on the boomfairlead.... The way of the middle in such discussions is not the wrong one, I guess.

As I told somewhere else not long time ago at TLF, I stay to my words: If you sail alone, better use a jacket that has a foam-collar, than die in reason you have none on your good-looking-suitable-and-fast-turbo-racing-PFD...
Cheers

I've been using a Salus PDF since the start of this eason and I'm quite happy. So comfortable, I don't remember I'm wearing it. And the maple leaf at the back is cool !
