I am wondering if I need to replace the in-mast block at the lower end of my main-halyard. There is a notch in the plastic block and it occassionally spits out small black plastic bits (not healthy I'm thinking). The boat was purchased this last spring and is a 1981 Laser 2. If you have any experience doing this, I would appreciate any and all guidance.

Yeah, it sounds like it should be replaced. Could you post a picture of it, and measure the distance between the fixing holes (centre-to-centre, in millimetres)? I think it's an Allen plain-bearing exit block, but I just don't remember which one of them.
