I am new to the world of sailing and just purchased a 1972 Koralle Jr. What size and type of rope should I use, as the whole boat must be rigged.

Without specific information, I think that you should experiment with the lines to see how they fit the various blocks etc.
A halyard should be relatively non-stretch.
