Not neccesarily a disadvantage. For the smaller sailer in higher winds it allows the sail to "leak off" air and allows the smaller weight over the edge to still keep the boat driving rather than letting out the mainsheet and having to bear off rather than point.
In heavy air it'll become quite apparent when you need a jens rig, if you have the sail gooseneck adjusted for heavy air.
The plan is to adjust the gooseneck first and when you're overpowered then go to a jens.
