For the very first time, following it’s launch two months ago, we are sending out Short Tacks to every Making Waves subscriber and the ISAF database, highlighting the opportunity for you to register to ISAF's twice weekly news digest of the latest sailing stories from around the world.

Complementing Making Waves, which is published weekly on a Monday, Short Tacks is published on a Wednesday and Friday. However, unlike Making Waves, which is distributed to all those on the ISAF database and those subscribed via ISAF Sailor, Short Tacks is only distributed to those subscribed via ISAF Sailor.

ISAF is also giving you an extra opportunity to subscribe for Short Tacks. Due to public holidays in Great Britain, the next issue of Short Tacks will be issued on Wednesday 23 April, rather than Friday 18 April. To register, simply go to www.sailing.org/isafsailor click on email services, and register for Short Tacks. You will then receive, along with Making Waves, the very latest in sailing news throughout the week.

Over the last couple of days in the sailing world, we have seen the leader of the Tasaki Osaka Cup, Maverick II, finish in Osaka, although some of the cruising fleet are being held back by the threat of 125 knot winds in their path, many having sensibly taken shelter.

The Final leg of Around Alone started from Salvador (BRA) on Sunday. Alan Paris has already had a close encounter with a large marine mammal and the fleet are incredibly close going up the east coast of Brazil. Their next and final stop will be the finish in Newport, Rhode Island, (USA)

It has been a busy couple of weeks for the Olympic Class sailors in and around Europe. Barcelona Olympic Week has just finished, and the ISAF Grade 2 Princess Sofia Trophy in Palma is now into day 3 of it’s week long schedule of racing. After a misty start in Palma, 60 races were sailed today and the latest results are in the news article below.

The Lightning Worlds is well underway in Miami, USA. Today was a lay day but, reading reports, it appears sailors and race officials alike are finding the conditions on Biscayne Bay challenging to say the least. 160 South American Optimist Sailors have congregated in the Port of Montevideo (URU) for their continental championship and as they went into the team racing day today, it looked like a stable 1-2 for the Argentinean team.

Over the busy weekend to come, many of the current regattas will reach their conclusion, with many new ones to commence, including, Spi Ouest in France, Sail Sydney, and of course, the ever spectacular, Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta. Check the ISAF Website for up to the minute results from these regattas.
