How is a practice sail different....

I have seen practice sails being sold on the internet. What is the difference between a practice sail the sail that comes with the boat? Is the cut different? Is the cloth different? Or is it just not a legal racing sail?

The main diff is it's not a legal for most Laser class sanctioned events. (Some local events will relax that and allow specific non legal sail)
There can be some subtle differences in cloth weight, and how the sail trims, but for the most part, the builders of the practice sail try to have it perform closely to the class legal sail, the idea being you can train with the inexpensive practice sail, and save the expensive legal sail for regattas only and not have to relearn the sail controls
