How can I break in a new sheet?

I bought a new sheet of 3/8-inch line but it's too slippery to grasp easily with the nitrile work gloves that I like to use. I've found that sheets are like wine - the older the better when it comes to pulling and holding them. Older, weathered sheets are fuzzier and the shine is worn away, making them much easier for me to hold without causing cramps in my hands. As an added bonus, they tend to be more flexible and will coil up more neatly on the cockpit floor.

Does anyone know of a way to speed up the aging process and "break in" a new sheet?

The washing machine works, but some 320 or so grit sandpaper will help too - focus the sanding on the part you will hold going upwind. On reaches and runs the sheet does not need to be as soft where you are holding it.

APS sells nitrile gloves as they tend to be sticky. If yours are sticky, you are off to a good start in terms of gripping the sheet. BB
