HIN (Hull Identification Number) Explained

Greetings once more everyone.

I´ve always assumed my Sunfish was a 1976 Bicentennial Edition due to similar images posted on the internet however I wasn´t quite sure. For good measure, I wanted to ask and confirm with those that know if indeed mine is a 1976. The HIN reads: AMF40942M76H I´m guessing 76 is the year.

I´m a curious person and wanted to ask if anyone here can decode the rest. I´m guessing the serial number and?? Place of assembly? Model?

If it's the same as in the Lasers of that time, then "M" stands only for "Model year". The last letter then is the building month, starting with "A" in August of the previous (calendar) year. "H" should stand for March.

"AMF" is of course the builder, but the rest I will leave for the more Sunfish-y people to decipher
