Heavy Sunfish

Hi, we recently bought a sunfish and noticed its really heavy, maybe over 200 pounds. I know its waterlogged but I am not interested in racing it, just out having fun and sailing. Will the weight affect me a lot?
Thanks

Makes a huge difference in performance. Sail it waterlogged then dry it out, you'll
be happy you did as it's just dead weight. At least a 75 lb crew member is
useful for shifting counter-balance.

I bought a similar boat for $125 (Yippee!) :) When my helper and I tried to lift it, we strained our backs.

Not fun, but no way around it, I cut two ports in it, and dried it out over winter; fortunately, this was near a fresh water lake.

In your warm Mexican ocean sailing, hardware can be expected to be weakened by exposure to salt. Even while paddling, extra weight can make the difference in getting back home—so it's not just the fun of wind as power—but also a safety issue.
