I had no idea foil technology had entered the sailing realm! Can anyone tell me how long these boats have been around. Apparently the Worlds are taking place in Italy right now. Has anyone seen/sailed one?

Rohan Veal (Australia) has been instrumental in developing the foiling moth. It all started at least five years ago.

There are two or so in the Annapolis MD area (home built). You have to love to tinker and fix things...

Even the AC45 cats are trying the concept:

Up to this point I didn't know/understand how this all worked, but here is a link to a video that explains the 'magic' of the foiling moth:

 
Wavedancer, that was a fantastic find. he waxed long and poetic on the wing sail issue towards the end there, but the information on the foils was great.
 
The Moth class has been around for a long time. But until I saw the photo in this thread did I understand now how these new foil borne boats resemble what they are called...
