Hand paddle

What is recommended for a small paddle when the wind dies? I see a one hand plastic paddle-thing at APS. I was also thinking of carrying a swimming hand paddle. Any suggestions? Also, how to best secure it? Thanks in advance.

I was recently given a telescopic paddle from West Marine that looks pretty good - I haven't tried it yet. It looks small enough to put into the cubby or use velcro straps for inside the cockpit or even on the foredeck.

Try using the dagger board: low cost, nothing to stow. For the number of times the wind dies it's not that hard to use.

How about this from APS (our sponsor at the top of this page)... while I don't own one, I have seen it used and it seems to work great!

I agree about the "praddle". Worked great (until I lost it in a capsize) and fit in the storage compartment. Guess I'd add some floatation to it! Well worth the $18.
