how far back on the boom should you attach the Gooseneck?

How does this affect sailing characteristics?

thanks

For a recreational sailor set it about 18 or 20 inches from the front of the boom and leave it. I use a quickrelease on mine so I can adjust it according to wind conditions. Putting the gooseneck futher foward on the boom gives you more power for lighter winds and further back depowers the rig for heavyer winds.

The gooseneck can be set between about 14 and 22" (measured from the front cap). It's a major adjustment and getting it right for the conditions is pretty important for boat handling. If you don't want to fiddle with the setting, Alcort 59224's recommendation is on target.
