Good Luck Eduardo and Paul-Jon

Our class is being well represented in the Championship of Champions at Bayview YC. Eduardo Cordero and Paul-Jon Patin will be sailing the Flying Squat together versus a field of champions. If you guys are lurking on the forum....GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!...(and don't get mugged on the way to BYC). We'll be checking the results.

Eduardo is in the lead! Port tacked the first start, crossed the fleet and never looked back! Won the second one too. Broke the main halyard before the 3 rd race though.

RACE REPORT

Another update I copied from a sailing forum site:

"Well they are running race #9 right now - on the downwind leg with breeze about 10-12 running against a 1.5K current. Ed Cordero is STILL kicking ass and taking names with Mark Ingham in second. They are going to try to get enough races in today so that they can complete the round robin (16 races total) tomorrow. I don't have scores, but Ed is confortably ahead. They did have a glitch in getting the scores to USSA last night, but have it figured out for today.

BTW, Zak Fanberg had to go see what was left of his home in New Orleans since yesterday was the first day that they've allowed people to go into that ZIP code. Similarly Mark Eagan also cancelled (he just won the FS Nationals in Houston) to take care of all of his customers (he is in the insurance business in New Orleans) that were effected by Katrina/Rita."

Go Eduardo

Congratulations to Eduardo and JP with the second place finish! Something to be really proud of and excellent news for us all and the Sunfish class.

U.S. Championship of Champions 2005
Saturday, October 1

Conditions: SSW at 10 knots

"Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory..." That's a quote from Eduardo Cordero's crew after two OCS starts on the final day of the C of Cs. That's 42 points in two races. Too bad for Eduardo.

But good for Mike Ingham, 2005 Thistle National Champion from Rochester Canoe Club in Rochester NY. Proving that it isn't over until it's really over, Mike sailed a consistently conservative race today with finishes of 3-5-5-5-5 to end with 59 points and the Championship of Champions title.

Even after two OCS hits, Sunfish Champion Cordero (Sayville, NY) still finished in second place with 69.6 points, followed by the youngest competitor, Optimist Champion Matt Wefer (Glen Head, NY) with 75 points.
