Got the ‘ol fish out for the first sail of the season! 15mph southernly winds with 20mph on an east-to-west lake. A balmy 82 degrees in Chicagoland, but boy was that water cold! What a blast!
Had to end it prematurely when the cotter pin holding my main sheet ratchet block popped out due to a ring-ding failure. I guess that will teach me to do a more thorough equipment check before going out!
Unable to do an on-the water repair in those winds, so saved the pieces, re-routed the main sheet and limped my way back to the launch site. I think I’ll be replacing that ring-ding tonight.
Looking forward to the new season!
Shout out to anyone sailing in the north Chicago area!
