First laser racing experience

Today I went to Fishing Bay Yacht Club to race my new (to me) 1985 Laser, and had a great time. My rigging needs a lot of work, but I still was able to maintain contact with the fleet (five boats) and even avoid finishing last (hooray!!). I did best in the light air races but was hopeless in the heavy wind races later. I had good boat speed upwind but could not tack -- each time I tried I ended up in irons. This will take work. The people at Fishing Bay are great. Thanks!!

Good to hear it was a happy experience.

try searching for a thread called:

tacking in heavy weather

or

tacking problem

or some variation on that. There was a thread not so long ago with suggestions to avoid that sort of thing.
