Daggerboard Repair

I have a new style daggerboard. The leading edge of the board has taken a beating this summer. The leading edge has bumps and small cuts in the board. What is the best way to smooth out the leading edge?

I noticed on my board that in the past someone had cut out a one ince wide section, refitting that space with a new piece of what looks like oak but might be teak. They then nicely sanded the refit down until it matches the boards contours. Sounds like mucho work yet I think it might not be that hard to do. I can't see how they attached it but would guess they used either small pegs or maybe even little screws as well as water proof glue. I've put it through some rough treatment and It holds up perfectly. It might though be easier to simply make a new board. I had two but just recently sold one otherwise we could have made a deal.

Between 5 and 55 miles depending on where on the lake he lives. I'm about 5 miles south of Brewerton just off rt 81.
