Do I need a sail with a window and fiber glass blades for my boat to be class legal

No, it's just nice to be able to see other boats...

If you are day sailing, no. Club racing, maybe. Racing in regionals, north americans, yes. The class at one time had wood blades and if the are from the manufacturer they class legal. The wood centerboards just dont have the performance of the foil boards.

If you are upgrading, get the modern board first. The sail isn’t as critical although eventually you will want the race cut.
