:eek:Two races were completed. Blowing like stink with people flipping, not finishing, and breaking things.

Awesome...

Results can be seen at the USSailing Website - Championship of Champions.

Would love to see the carnage on the course (race 2). What typically broke on the boats?

Good to see some well-known Sunfishers among the top ten.

Looks like 6 boats DNFd the last race after capsizing starting the final leg. It is shallow at SYC so perhaps some got their gaffs stuck in the mud. BB

Weather.com showed winds were "calm" in Sayville today.

If you look at the last pix from the first day of racing, it looks like #11 had been drilling for oil with the top of his rig. :D

Ah yes.... I have very fond memories of discovering oil at the bottom of the Great South Bay during the Pan Am Trials. There is nothing like finishing a race with the "black badge of courage" proudly displayed at the top of your sail for everyone to see.

#11 is Stephen Smeulders; he won race 2. Whatever he dug up, it must have been something wonderful :)

Congratulations to Doug Kaukeinen for winning the Championship of Champions. Doug qualified for the championship by winning the 2008 Sunfish North Americans in Erie, PA. Doug is a class act and true sportsmen. The class is very fortunate to have him representing us.

Happy to see that a Sunfisher won. In years to come, Doug can really look back on a great season!

Not too long ago, the event was sailed in Flying Scots. As I recall, Cordero and Patin almost won. They were leading prior to the last race, but were OCS in the last race .
