Bottom Paint

I would like to tough-up some scratches on my old 1978 Laser hull. I ordered a gallon of "interlux Fiberglass Bottomkote NT". A sailing buddy mentioned that I shouldn't use bottom paint on my Laser because of the weight and surface structure. This is NOT a racing boat. I'm 75, in okay shape and just want to sail without worrying about my hull wicking water.

Any thoughts?

Bottom paint is generally considered to be porous. If you are concerned about wicking water, an epoxy barrier coat application like the Interprotect 2000 may be a better route.
