blocks on the mast

I have had my boat for a month or so and I have a question I can't figure out. There are two blocks up on the mast, one on each side at about the same hieght as the jib halyard block. My boat is an 87. What are they for?

Thanks for any help.

Do you mean jam cleats? If so, one is for the main's cunningham control line to cleat to and I'm guessing the other is for a boom down haul control line. Without seeing the mast, thses are my best guesses.

up high

No, they are blocks and they are up high where the top of the jib attaches to the mast. Since the boat seems to be rigged correctly according to the manual and they are not even shown in the manual it is not a big concern. However it bugs me not knowing why they are there.

The previous owner might have flown spinnakers using those blocks for spin halyards. I can't think of anything else they might have been used for(for sailing, anyway). I too would remove them. If they are good blocks save them as spares.
