Applying Sail Numbers

I recently got a new sail :) and sail numbers but I have never attached sail numbers on before. Is this task hard to do, and do you have any tips for doing it the right way and quickly?

Also I have the class rules and dimensions already, was more interested in the actual action of putting them on.

For a first timer, right way and quickly don't go together..

A flat work surface large enough for the whole number sequence (ie 189898) on one side is ideal. The sail needs to be free of salt/dirt and it needs to be dry. It helps to have a straight edge that you can use to draw a light pencil line the represent either the bottom edge of the numbers or the top. Then watch this..
(she talks too much, but the principles are ok)

A couple of tips:
If you have to, cut the number in half (some people have trouble with 8's and 0's )
The adhesive is a pressure sensitive adhesive. Once it's in place correctly firmly rub over the whole number.

it helps to have a decent sized area that is clean,

if you end up applying them on the floor, be extra sure to brush any dirt off, especially when you flip the sail, before applying the numbers

it helps to peel the backing only slightly, get the number aligned and started, then peel as you go, it makes the 0,6,8,9 a easier.

if you mess up, you can still peel the numbers back while the adhesive is fresh, be careful not to stick the number to itself

I peel back one corner, pulling the lining back 180 degrees. I then position the number and press down the exposed corner. I then slowly peel back a little bit at a time, pressing down as I go, working along the length of the decal. Works well with a "1" or even a "2" or "5". A bit of a challenge for a "6" or "9".
