Applying Marine Compound to a laser hull

Hi does anyone know how to apply marine 3m compund to a laser hull. last summer i sanded down the scratches on the hull but now i am left with ugly mismatching sand marks all over the hull. I bought a bottle of 3m compound and used a cloth to apply it. I rubbed and rubbed untill my hand felt like it would fall off but the sand marks did not fade at all!!
Do i need a buffing tool to achieve a desired result? Anyone who knows what to do please respond. Thanks

What grade sandpaper did you use? Sounds like you may have used a coarse grade like 80 to 240.

If so you need to use finer wet and dry paper like 600 and then work your way up to 1000 to sand out the shallow sanding marks and then you can polish your repair.

Be careful not to sand through gelcoat.

try wet sanding with fine sandpaper, use a few different grades finishing with the finest grit, there is a 3m rubber block you can get to put the paper on, it makes it easier to sand and doesn't hurt your hands as bad.
