Sailed DNs and some crazy windsurf boards in the Mendota late in Madison, WI for a few years. Lot's of fun, if you have the chance go for it, it will blow you away.

There's a member here called "GeoffS" who's into that stuff.

I'll be happy to help you any way I can.
Drop me an e-mail [email protected] if you want to discuss off-line.

The best suggestion I have is to find some local iceboaters.
Where are you located?
I'll see if I can find some friendly folks nearby.

Some good on-line resources (in addition to dnamerica.org):

Up hear in the northern mid-west the weather is getting colder. Some of the Minnesota guys think they'll be sailing this weekend, and our first regatta is the week after.

Cheers,

Geoff S.

If you are in the east, try the new england site: www.neiya.org Eastern Mass is a hotbed. Burlington, VT early and late in the season.

Older boats can give you a ride; they routinely take 2. www.hriyc.org when the Hudson freezes, it's fun to watch too.

up north, www.geocities.com/montrealiceboating

Long Island, http://www.ice-scooter.org/ has discussion, etc. also, an interesing site.

Connecticut? Stop by Bantam Lake.

Just buy or make an older starter DN, watch the posts for ice in your area, and go sailing. (but not alone) Iceboaters are a friendly lot, and encourage others to get into the sport. Look for Sarns hardware on that DN. You can probably get someone to help you rig the boat before going to the ice.
