I am looking to learn how to sail. I sailed a few times on a sunfish at summer camp and loved it. I am now 35 and I am at a point in my life where I have some free time and spare money and I would like give sailing a try. I have done some research and it looks like laser sailing is the best fit for me. I am 5'11" 190 and in decent shape and I am also interested in racing. Any advice on how to get started.

Contact your local sailing club who can tell you about Learn To Sail programs available . Good luck, you're going to have the time of your life!

You're going to really enjoy the laser,

A few things that will greatly make your sailing more enjoyable are:

-Learn the points of sail
-Learn about safety on the water
-Learn the rules of the road and pickup a racing rules of sailing explained
-Learn how to rig the boat properly and practice rigging it correctly
-Join a gym, you'll want to excersise regularly to stregthen your core muscles
-Learn good technique from the start, watch and talk to better sailors, most will be glad to help you out
