30-year old Sunfish

Our family has a 30-year old (probably closer to 40 yrs) Sunfish that has been sitting in garage storage for at least 20 years. It's got a ripped sail & a missing rudder (and broken rudder bracket). All the other parts are in working order. Trying to find out if (a) it's worth tracking down these parts &/or (b) worth investing in a whole other (used) updated sunfish. It's vintage & we would like to use it with the working parts. Thanks, in advance, for any advice you may have!

And yes....the tiller is also missing....

you might get more responses if you post this over in the Sunfish Forum... they are all really helpful over there!

that being said:
  • a ripped sail can be patched with sail tape
  • or you can get a really nice new sail for <$150 from Intensity Sails
  • you can post over in the "wanted ads" section (Sunfish Wanted Ads ) about the rudder/tiller/rudder bracket and see if another member has one they can sell you, or browse craigslist near you - these things pop up occasionally for sale there
  • vintage doesn't really mean much, or add much value - at this point, it's mostly just sentimental value for your family
  • post some pictures - that would help us understand what you have and/or need
  • if you plan to sell, clean it up and sell it in the spring - you'll have better luck then (IMHO)
good luck,
