The Santa Cruz NorCals, the second longest continually running Laser Regatta in the world, will be held this weekend, April 19-20! This is our big opportunity to race Lasers/Radials/4.7s on the north end of Monterey Bay in the world famous wind and waves off of the Santa Cruz Beach and Boardwalk. And afterwards to get the old timers to tell all the tale tales of the world's most famous sailors capsizing at the famed "buoy of death"!

And this time of the year we might even see a whale or two just for good measure!

The regatta, as always, also serves at the US Sailing Area G qualifier for the US Singlehanded Championships (the O'Day trophy). This year's O'Day Finals will be sailed out of the Sayville Yacht Club, on the southern tip of Long Island, August 6-10. While this year's event will be held in Sunfish, and not Lasers, one should not be detracted from attending the event, both for its prestige (check out the past winners) AND for the great sailing conditions to be found at Sayville (they have hosted numerous Laser events). More information about this event can be found on the US Sailing site.

In addition, the NorCals will also serve to kick off the 2008 Northern California Laser/Radial Grand Prix! This is a great series of events and really fun to participate in. The event has been one the past two years by iron man Walt Spevak, look for lots of sailors to be trying to knock him off the top of the podium this year! Get more information about the Northern California Grand Prix at the D24 website.

NOR for the NorCals is attached, let me know if anyone has any problems opening it.

Let's get a good turnout down in Santa Cruz this weekend!
