Palma de Mallorca, SpainApril 5, 2007My race week at the Trofeo Princesa Sofia in Palma de Mallorca ended today as light and varied conditions ahead of a storm front killed any possibility of racing and thus killed my final chance to make it into the top ten boats for tomorrow’s Medal Race. The weather looked questionable from the outset. We sailed out from the dock in a breeze that was 180 degrees off the forecast direction. Out on the course we waited under a beautiful sunny sky, drifting round in wisps of wind from the southwest. We were directly on the flight path into Palma’s airport and entertained ourselves by guessing what plane was coming in next, while the weather deteriorated to clouds, rain, some hail and more rain for four hours. After the the committee brought us in, we waited another hour and a half before they called off racing for the day.
