The Course:
The course shall be around Harkers Island. Sailors may elect to circumnavigate Harkers Island clockwise or counter-clockwise. Browns Island is NOT a mark of the course and is not considered part of Harkers Island. The starting and finishing line will be in the vicinity of Shell Point between the Race Committee boat and a nearby mark. Upwind of the starting line will be two racing marks indicating a gate. Sailors must pass upwind through the gate and select a course around Harkers Island, passing through the center span of the Harkers Island drawbridge. The Harkers Island drawbridge will not open for racing sailors. Sailors are forewarned that boats may have to be heeled or rigs may have to be lowered to pass under the bridge with unusual high water (the race has been scheduled so to pass through the bridge at close to low tide and lowering of sails has not been necessary in the past). Paddling within 100 yards of the bridge is permitted. Sailors are reminded to review the Inland Rules of the Road governing navigation in restricted waters. A local chart will be provided for all skippers. Sailing instructions will be provided at registration for both days of sailing.
