Delamination of fiberglass from foam core on deck of 1973 Laser

Thanks, Laser friends. That is helpful information. Just FYI, on this 1973 Laser the delamination is in small (3" diameter) areas all over the deck. These cannot be noticed in daylight but only at night when the headlights of the car shine parallel to the surface of the deck.

Delamination of fiberglass from foam core on deck of 1973 Laser

Krycek, I believe that 49208 was advocating using resin, but epoxy resin rather than polyester resin. I do not believe that there is any advantage to using polyester resin over epoxy other than the cost is less. I believe that the epoxy bond will also be chemical and that it will be stronger...

Delamination of fiberglass from foam core on deck of 1973 Laser

I have read many Laser Forum articles on delamination. But I still do not have a sense of what might be the best resin or glue or other adhesive to inject between the fiberglass skin and the foam core. Suggestions?

Locations of inspection ports and mast step repair

Thanks, Greg. From looking at those photos and reading many helpful comments on this forum and elsewhere, I have concluded that it would not be a good idea to install an inspection port next to the mast step if there is a good chance that the mast step repair kit will be needed. The...

Locations of inspection ports and mast step repair

Merrily, do you mean long drill bit? That is what I used to drill into the resin at the bottom of the tube. Regarding using the search feature, I spent several hours reading through many helpful threads before I posted my questions. I do not believed that they have been answered anywhere on...

Locations of inspection ports and mast step repair

Thanks, Merrily. I will investigate the cableman's drill. Vtgent49, I like your suggestion of drilling all the way through then flipping the boat upside down and using that small hole as access to punch the plug out. Regarding the inspection port, my question is, if I use the Viking lid to...

Locations of inspection ports and mast step repair

I may need to purchase a mast step kit but first I want to try to make repairs to my mast step without buying the kit. My first task is to cut at least one 5.5" inspection port. I want to make sure that the hole(s) I am about to cut will be either completely inside the area that the repair...

    i sails

I just acquired an old Laser with two old sails. One has the Laser icon in the clew but the sail is ripped in several places. The other has no rips but it has an Elvstrom icon in the clew. Is the Elvstrom sail legal in class races? I sent both sails to SailCare to see what they could do with...

Sail number derived from hull number

I just traded an inflatible boat and a 3.5 hp engine for an old Laser. I am trying to learn more about the boat and to get it ready to sail in the spring. There is no model number under the bow eye or anywhere on the bottom of the hull or in the cockpit. The only number is on the transom. The...
