    New Daggerboard 06' World boats

I have heard the same reactions from people who went to the worlds at my club. I guess we like our existing boards we better take care of them.

    New Daggerboard 06' World boats

I've heard that the World's boats had a new style daggerboard. They have done away with the hand hold and went with a small hole in the rear of the board for a rope instead. Also that the shape at the bottom is slightly different and 1/4" longer. I was told that they did this because someone...

How to determine "year " of sunfish

Usually the last two digits represent the year on later model boats. Early model boats I don't believe did it that way. A good way to tell if it is a 70's and earlier is there is no storage compartment in the cockpit. If there is then I would guess that its an 82'

User Poll: FRP vs. conventional mahogany rudder

The FRP rudder is gelcoated and the dagger board is painted. That is why the dagger board chips the paint off. The FRP rudder is much better quality than the dagger board. Make sure that the dagger board is not exposed too long with paint worn off as the metal rods in the center will start to...

User Poll: FRP vs. conventional mahogany rudder

The FRP rudder is by far the better choice. It is far more durable and has a better surface. You could buy the wood one and fiberglass it and gelcoat it but by the time you finish you'll have spent more money and time re-enforcing it to the standards of the FRP.

    Mainsheet and Halyard lines

Oops I made a typo in the halyard as supercub said its 3/16 or 1/4" for the halyard. As for the extra length I wouldn't want mine 32' I have mine a 28' and it gives me more than enough sheet to extend beyond 90 degrees downwind if needed and to tie the sheet to the hiking strap to prevent...

    launching dolly question

They are all like that. The good thing about it being there is if you want to launch your boat back wards in the dolly if the wind is blowing on shore with the rig up, the stern fits in the "V" and won't hit the rail.

    Mainsheet and Halyard lines

Actually you should have 27' to 28' feet for your mainsheet 5/16 or 3/8 dia. which ever you prefer. As for the type either a single braid or what I use is rooster ropes 3/8 dia. The halyard shoud be at least 24' or more of 3/8 dia. non-stretch yale cordage or similar. You can look on apsltd.com...

    Bailer leak?

Kevin, Keep an eye on the repair. I hope everything works out for you. Although I fear that it is only a band-aid fix. I think that you are going to have this problem come back. I tried a light glass job the first time I repaired mine and it lasted about a month and came back. Then I had to use...

    Bailer leak?

I very much Disagree. I had this problem and water got into my hull and I have an 04'. What the problem is, is that your deck and your mast step are seperating. The crack is not only in the gelcoat, it is all the way through. Any water flowing over the deck will find its way in. You will need...

    Mast sleeve needed?

Well Ive talked to the dealer and Vanguard and they have agreed that I was in the right and had been sold a mast although new and unused, that was older than my boat. And that it was not my fault so they are going to warranty it after all.

    Mast sleeve needed?

I just found out that Vanguard is not going to warranty my mast. It appears that the mast was manufactured in 2000 and my boat is an 04'???? That would mean that the dealer gave me a 4 year old mast with a brand new boat. The mast was brand new so I didn't question the manufacture date nor did I...

    Mast sleeve needed?

No it didn't have a sleeve. It was made without one. The dealer I bought it from is talking with Vanguard and they want the dealer to saw off the bottom section and send it to them so they can anylize the material to see if its the weaker aluminum. If they have been making the masts since 1993...

    Wind indicator

It sounds like your mast is not turning correctly. I use a Davis spar mounted indicator. I noticed the same thing. Then I noticed my mast wasn't turning and my spar was rolling over on one tack. I have fixed the turning problem and have no more problem with the indicator. Wrap the mast with...

Stopping sail chafe on port tack?

Also, if you have a sail tie or clip near the gooseneck try removing it. I do not have a sail tie near the gooseneck at all. One reason is for adjusting the gooseneck and the other is the chaffing.

    Sail tie size

I am using Excel Vectran Polyester double braid 1/16th in. It's very durable, but I just started using it so I can't tell you how long it lasts. It's part of the recommended sail tie line in a line package sold at apsltd.com. I only needed the sail ties so I got much cheaper at West Marine.com...

    Cunningham problem

The other thing to do is to take the the end cap at the end of the boom out and turn it slightly, then re drill the hole for the eye bolt. This will give you enough clearance to pass a line through the end cap and clear the nut.
