    Ideas for trailer modifacations?

So, I have recently purchased my boat and all is good. While towing it home I realized that I can't see it when it's behind my truck. And really, it's too light to feel. I stopped half way home to make sure it was still back there. That problem is solved easily enough by adding poles...

    filling surface cracks

I just purchased a '73 Dolphin (much like a sunfish). It's in really good condition save some surface cracks in the fiberglass. If there were just one or two, I’d scrape them out and gel coat them. However there are quite a few. When I say surface cracks I mean very shallow hairline cracks...

Installing Hiking Strap on Old Sunfish

you might consider using toggle anchors (kind of like molly anchors for hanging heavy pictures or mirrors on drywall) rather than adding a port and backing plate. (westmarine.com item # 1244755) i'm in a similar situation. i have not committed to the anchors yet but they seem like a good...

    boat registration

call your local DMV and/or state parks people they can tell you for sure. here in texas if it doesn't have a motor but is over 14' you have to register it. you will still have to register your trailer. Call the DMV they'll set you straight.

    adding a mainsheet jam cleat

BS, i think those anchors will do exactly what i want them to do. thanks Doug, sometimes one deserves to be lazy. the cleat also keeps the mainsheet from getting strung out when you capsize the boat. and what's a day on the lake without atleast one venture into the drink!

    adding a mainsheet jam cleat

BS, I'm not sure what you are refering to when you mention toggles. do you mean something like the "stainless steel toggle"? there is still the question of how and where to mount it. duh, nevermind. i had a brain malfunction. i found the toggles you are talking about. that might just work...

    adding a mainsheet jam cleat

thank you for getting back to me. the vessels are very similar. the dolphin however does not have a backing plate. though that makes sense to me. i'm skeptical about screwing into the fiberglass directly and that's why i posted this question. i bet there is a way to attach them, but i have...

    adding a mainsheet jam cleat

Hi y'all, i just purchased a '73 Dolphin Sr. I know, I know, this is a laser forum. but as the vessels are so similar i thought you could help. having sailed other similar crafts, sunfish, phantoms etc, i really got used to having a jam cleat for the mainsheet. my new boat does not have one...
