Regarding the steering motions, I believe the Rooster videos describe it as the following, which has helped me understand the proper motions:
Imagine your boat is capsized (mast horizontal). Your rudder then acts like the tail flaps on an airplane. Your objective is to steer the boat...
I haven't used the jacket, but unless you plan on wearing it around on shore, there's no reason not to get the smock in my opinion. Lighter, slimmer, more water-tight (no zipper, inner and outer neck seals). I took the smock on a Fastnet, a Transatlantic, wore it in the Laser and for...
Does anyone plan on doing this event? It's new, right? Does anyone have any information beyond what's on the SailNewport site? Is there a list of people who are currently registered that anyone's been able to find?
Might be interesting to anyone in florida. Not much time left.

The recommendations of Snipe, JY15, 420, and V15 are far inferior to the Laser II in terms of performance (with trap and spinnaker, only available on the 420 [but still with inferior performance]), but there is obviously a required difficulty level rise to match that increase in performance...
Seitech.
I think the Seitech does more to protect your boat. The gunwale supports seem more forgiving for one. I've also seen boats on Optiparts dollies that have slipped off the gunwales onto the plastic axle beam and then rocketed downhill and onto the beach or, worse, pavement... This...
Anyone ever have this happen before?
Rear ended on I-495 on Long Island. Boat totaled, brand new kitty hawk trailer likely totaled. How does insurance handle a boat? How do I go about establishing its value?
Thanks,
Seth
Hi,
I'm looking to borrow or charter or something... a laser in Huntington Beach or Long Beach or there-abouts until the end of February. I'm here doing an internship with Morrelli and Melvin (Naval Architects and Yacht Designers) and I'm looking for something to sail while I'm here.
I have...
I may be working in Huntington Beach, Ca this summer. I've got a few questions about laser racing around there. First of all, assuming I don't cart my boat across the country, how should I go about chartering a laser for the time that I'm there? Is long term chartering a thing that is at all...
Line tied with a bowline to the bow support, run through the bow 'eye', pulled tight, and secured with a cleat hitch on the 'handle' of the bow support. Quick, easy, and secure.
Eh, I don't remember exactly, but it was something like that. I thought it would be cheaper going direct, but it turned out to be an old price I was looking at. It would have been the same as someone like APS ($675), as far as I know, so I just went with it.
Gotcha. I was looking at it as a positive from the perspective of a single laser--I figure the lighter springs will be a bit kinder to the boat.
Also, vassilis--I got mine directly from Nautical America, the maker. You can find contact info somewhere on this site... Not sure where...
I've got the Kitty Hawk trailer too and think it's great. I can easily manage to do everything on the boat by myself which would be impossible if car-topping. The swivel bow makes a huge difference. The KH trailer might cost a bit more than a trailer on which you put the dolly and boat...
Great. Thank you. I hadn't thought to look at the yralis site... probably a pretty obvious thing... Any idea if this regatta gets much attention from the lasers usually? I'm trying to decide between it and stone horse. It being two days and close to home makes it the more preferable option...
Does anyone know anything about this regatta? I can't find information on the yacht club's site--the only thing that says "yralis champs" is an ideal 18 event...
