Laser Booties

Aigle unfortunately discontinued their GREAT booties (my opinion of course). Neil Pryde came out with Elite Evolution; look-alikes but they are junk because the rivets for the laces were low quality stainless if they were even stainless at all [they fell out and rusted out] and the seams broke...

    Nautalytics out of business?

Problem resolved - I found Quinn's phone number in one of my communications. He called me with the fix and the solution is now posted on their website: To charge the compass: The compass needs to be recharged directly in the sun for 2-3 days, 3-4 times a year. I recharge mine on my picnic...

    Nautalytics out of business?

Has anyone dealt with Nautalytics (digital compass) lately? I purchased one in January 2018 and it worked fine but last April (2019) the display stopped while sailing. I though the auto-shutoff function or batteries were shot but then I would hold down the power up button and sometimes it...

question for guys who do a lot of frostbiting

Dave - I looked at Glacier Bay products and they have several models of fleece lined pre-formed neoprene gloves under the fishing categorry: http://www.glacieroutdoor.com/products_fishing.php under the paddle sports: http://www.glacieroutdoor.com/products_water.php - do you recall...

    rooster hiking boots

I have a pair, have worn them out I like them so much. In Maine warm is a relative term. As they have gotten older the velcro tends to not stick as well and the strap ends catch on the sheet. I suppose I could trim the strap ends back duh...;)

    Class Politics Digital Compass Anyone???

Yes, that would double or triple the price, but hey, likely to be less expensive than eye surgery. And a lot more reliable and less permanent in the case of the screwup. The proposed digital compass fails, you are out money, the opthamologist screws up and you have still to...

    Bottleport location

Ideally a horizontally orientation enables self-draining. A Vertical mounting works because it is usually where previous inspection reports have been mounted. A fellow Laser sailor remarked how it would fill with water and slow me down. If I were a perfect sailor, he'd be right but the...

you said you purchased the trailer in ME (Maine) where do you live as I would like to check the trailer out as I have a Mig welder and an auto repair shop in Kittery. There are a couple of Laser sailors in the area that car pooling to regattas would be more fun than sailing along

    Knee Pad Brand Suggestions

I am using knee pads (don't recall the brand but they were black on the outside and blue on the inside and purchased from APS as I recall) and when I wear out my hiking shorts would go to the 3/4 hiking pants because as the knee pad elastic wears out they slip down on to your shins. I found...

    mainsheet mess

I shorten the main sheet length by tying the "standing end" of the mainsheet around the hiking strap just beneath the mainsheet block instead of the back of the cockpit the way most do. I have found that as you become more proficient in the boat you learn to "make the time" to organize the...

    Warwick RI sailors?

Check with Jim Meyers of Intensity. As I recall there was a group sailing out of East G., not sure which day (I thought it was Saturday not to compete with the 413 Fleet on Sundays) and perhaps only in the "off season"

Al- I hope this finds you and your family well. It's nice to finally have a sunny day here on the seacoast!! 3 years later, most of my deceased parents' issues (houses, burial of ashes, transfer of property) are behind me and I have been spending a fair amount of time on the water...

S Turning & Sailing by the lee - it works!!

I don't know if I can articulate this very well but here goes -- when I am sailing by the lee I find that I am pushing the tiller to windward so that the rudder feels as though it has ?weather helm? in order to keep the boat headed in the direction I want to go. This seems to be wrong as I must...

    Fall Sailing Gear

What do you use for "long gloves"? The search results on the subject in TLF indicate the Atlas Gardening Gloves are good, any other suggestions? While we are on the subject - what about your feet? I have a drysuit and was going to have it retrofit to have full booties and then wear 2 layers...

    Atlas Garden Gloves

has anyone used these for frostbiting, let's say in a larger size that would allow a thin liner glove? Frostbiting in Newport was great competition but the wet cold fingers was the main element kept me from doing it for long

    Laser 2 Helm Position

Re: Laser 2 Hellm Position Sorry to pain you Al. This place would be a great place for a Laser school save for the problem of getting boats on the island and dealing with the Dutch bureaucray. Their sailing school has a raft of Sunfish that appear to get zero use. I tried the baseball cap...

    Laser 2 Helm Position

Any advice on my position as the helmsman in a Laser w/18-22 knots of breeze? I am sailing in Bonaire and we were screaming upwind and reaching. I was hiking w/feet in straps and the other guy was on the wire. The problem was that the spray was such that it was as though I was on the wrong...
