    4.7 vs. Opti

I am a sailing instructor and i highly recommend the opti. It is a very largely raced fleet and used optimists have a very high sell back value so you can sail the boat for 4 summers and sell it for 200 less than you bought it. Also, I would recommend the opti for a 9 year old because if she...

    Humming / ringing question

it is only conceptually possible to get rid of this vibration. it will always vibrate a bit. the less board in the water, the lsee vibration though due to less play in the c-board trunk. it also helps when screaming in heavy air because you won't trip over the board and are less likely to...

Advice for really HEAVY winds -what a blast

sail with a tight hiking strap when reaching or you may go swimming. when tacking try to get some speed on a cloes-hauled course before tacking and tack in the shallow of a wave so the wave will help mull you around. you may not feel the rudder because the boat is not heeling, therefore alot...

    Rudder Downhauls

i use a purchase, basically because, no matter what kind of line you use, it will have stretch. the extra tension on the line caused byt the purchase will ensure that your rudder stays fully down the whole race. also prevents alot of stress on the tiller because force on the rudder decreases.

what is the best rachet 4 racing whats the difference between them all ?

i have a harken, it is great. i find i never turn the ratchet off because usually if the wind is light enough that the ratchet holds the boom in, it won't matter how much you let it out, you will need to adjust it another way (shifting weight to leeward or pushing boom out with hand)

    reboarding following capsize

if you find that thye sail is to windward and you know the boat is going to flip onto you, hold on to the daggerboard and you will go under the boat. this saves time during a race when swimming around the boat to the daggerboard will lose you precious time. my friend and i call this a...

Wet sand bottom - What grit?

"1200 is the coarsest acceptable to finish finish. If you have time, follow the 1200 with a finer paper or with toothpaste." If you use toothpaste, what should you apply it with, I've never heard of using toothpaste. It probably leaves your boat smelling fresh too.

    Best Life Jacket?

I have an Extrasport Pull-over Life-jacket. IT is amazing. I'm not sure of the model name, or if they make it anymore, but it goives a great amount of flotation. I'm about 190, and it is great. It stays pretty high above the waistline for great mobility and the shoulder straps are neoprene...
