    Sailfish Bow Handle Joy!

It’s very satisfying. I did mine I think by hand. Start with a rough grit and work your way up, using polishing compound at the last several stages, with wet/dry sandpaper.

    The JMS project

The originalKits did indeed have a wooden mast. Unfortunately they almost universally snapped under use. The company shipped replacement tapered aluminum masts.

    Patent pending

I’m sitting in bright sun right now so not sure if any of these show markings. I’ve got lots and lots of pics…. Where are you located?

    Harken Hoisters

After heavy duty downsizing, my fleet is now at two Sunfish and two Sailfish. One Sunfish is blissfully stored in a nice safe place next to another, at the house next to where I grew up. Now I’ve got to find a cozy storage for the other three. I purchased a Harken Hoister and am planning to...

    Right On Trailer?

I have a Right On Trailer. It’s beyond easy and convenient. My only issue is that in the state of Illinois I’d have an easier time performing my own brain surgery than getting the darn thing licensed. …and this is after I purchased retail from the Right On company!

Should the Sunfish Class allow VHF Radios? - What if Andre did not rescue Bob Findlay?

I was gifted a marine radio for Christmas when I started to restore Fishnet, (as well as an awesome PFD). If I’m a large bidy if water, the fully charged radio will be with me. Period.

    Question for wooden Fish….

I think they were considering somehow building up the stations? My understanding is the craftsman is an accomplished woodworker but not necessarily a boatbuilder. In hindsight, I really wish I had just asked for more time and completed the restoration. I know i personally wouldn’t want to...

    Question for wooden Fish….

Received this message from Woodie’s owner, who has found a Michigan craftsman to finish her up. “I have a friend here who is a naval architect, who believes that the boat will be much stronger if the frames are epoxied to the top and bottom panels, although defers to anyone with more knowledge...

    Nifty idea

Thanks! I’ve been pondering whether it might be fun (I’m a science nerd) to find something that I could form in a mold to use in place of the buckets, for different weight, sustainability, configurations….

    Nifty idea

I saw these in this month’s Family Handyman, and just ordered a set of 8 of them. I’m thinking I’ve finally found an inexpensive racking platform tor the few remaining boats in my fleet! https://www.bucketbuilder.com/

Old Sunfish spars and spar repair question

Honestly, it’s news to me that there is a non-Sunfish (LP or other ownership) knockoff option. Is there?

    Snapped vintage spar wooden

I can’t speak as to how they did them originally, but last night I watched a video of Jimmy Diresta applying two coats of what he referred to as fiberglass mat, to both the interior and exterior of a gorgeous wooden canoe. I think it was plain old fiberglass cloth, and the end result was...

Question Any ideas on how to remove this corroded bailer?

Bluegirl’s is held on by some form of demon, to my knowledge. At this point, it was ground with an angle grinder, we tried a blow torch, and I think even a surface cut oscillating blade. Unfortunately I’m not sure what was done with Ghost. I never tried to remove that. I suspect a cork may...
