This makes sense and I am considering the AeroSouth rudder when I get a newer boat where I live most of the year. This boat is used about 2 - 4 weeks a year on a lake up north so trying to make minimal investments. However if I start to sail it more often I will do the rudder upgrade.

Thank you all for the great information. I’ll check the wood and use some epoxy for now. Next season I’ll do an inspection port and replace the wood blocks if needed, or convert to the new style rudder.

Thanks Lee! This also confirms for me that I may need to change out the old block if I want to do a double halyard setup. I may look to acquire a newer boat for racing and just use this for recreation on the lake. Keep up the epic videos!

Thank you! At some point I would like a race ready boat as I have raced J/27's and Flying Scots in a past sailing life. I like the idea of having to learn all the different controls and seeing the affect on sailing. I am however locating one boat on a lake in Maine and then acquiring another.

I will definitely experiment with the sail in Jens mode and just mark the upper boom with a regular and jens position. Might as well install the cleat as I have it already on order from intensity sails, along with a new regular sail for the boat.
