Update on my recent (old) Sunfish purchase, huge gaps where cockpit meets Hull (pictures included)

Thanks guys! The tips and photos definitely give me some very good ideas going forward. When it comes to Fiberglass and Resin, is there any type of Resin that works better for boats? Specifically, the gaps in the cockpit, or is it generally all the same? I plan to go with LAWilliams idea with...

Update on my recent (old) Sunfish purchase, huge gaps where cockpit meets Hull (pictures included)

Fairly old - probably 1965-1975 judging by the info I could find on Sunfish Timeline PDF. Deck hardware is decent, a lot of it is new/replaced. The mainsheet ratchet is brand new. The cleats are in good shape and the mast pole also has a cleat. Damage on the deck is very minimal and I've seen...

Update on my recent (old) Sunfish purchase, huge gaps where cockpit meets Hull (pictures included)

Hi guys, so a few days ago I posted a few questions about my recent sunfish purchase and a rather "sketchy" tiller it came with. You guys were super helpful and pointed me in the right direction to learn more about what parts I need, and where to get them. What I ended up doing was removing...

New Sunfish owner with boat needing repairs & ID the year

I noticed this in my Sunfish purchase as well. It looks very similar to the OP. It seems fairly leak free, but when I capsize, the hull fills up with tons of water. I did an air test and noticed a lot of air coming from all the gaps where the cockpit meets the hull. Any advice on how to seal...

Recently bought an older Sunfish, confusion over the Tiller (and lack of extension)

Thats kind of what I'm thinking as well the more research I'm doing. The Rudder is in great shape, it might even be a recent purchase. (the pervious owner did say about replacing a lot of the parts over the years) I think I'll shop around on that site and maybe send them a message about the...

Recently bought an older Sunfish, confusion over the Tiller (and lack of extension)

For example, if I were to get something like this: Sunfish, Rigged Tiller w/36 Inch Extension (Aluminum), 85210 would it be fairly easy to install myself? I am very new to the sunfish, and sailing in general, so I apologize if this seems obvious or trivial, Im just not sure about compatability

Recently bought an older Sunfish, confusion over the Tiller (and lack of extension)

It feels fairly sturdy but yes that was my very first concern as well. I will have to reach out to the person I bought it from - maybe they still have the original on hand or maybe its even in the boat cockpit. It's still in storage at my city since I still need to move it up to my folks house...

Recently bought an older Sunfish, confusion over the Tiller (and lack of extension)

Hi guys, brand new to the forums and hoping maybe an expert could help me out! I recently bought an older Sunfish for a very good price and can't wait to get it out on the lake in this coming week. Everything seems to be in very good shape, especially for the price, however the only issue I...
