    Fiberglass damage

I haven't tried that. You are thinking a small hole in the plug? what solder do you use to close the hole?

    Fiberglass damage

I tried the largest screw driver I could find (3/8) with PB Blaster first (soaked for 10 minutes). Tapped the driver with a hammer to jar things loose. Used downward pressure on the driver and turned it with vice grips. could not get the plug to budge.

    Fiberglass damage

I did that but read mostly about fiberglass repair and advice to use PB Blaster with a very large flat screw driver (if I can find one). It was not all that clear to me. I get the impression people cut new holes for other drainage solutions, possibly cutting out the exisiting plug, laying...

    Fiberglass damage

Maybe drill a hole in it then use a screw extractor on a drill running in reverse?

    Fiberglass damage

Please elaborate on the replacement option, how did you remove the old plug or did you just leave it and put a new plug somewhere else?

    Splash Shield Painting

Those are not labeled as Marine paints like the white I've used before. But in your experience they hold up? Thanks

    Splash Shield Painting

My splash shield is extremely faded. I need to pain it. What is the best paint for that? I painted the bottom with Rustoleum topside paint and it came out nice. If I paint the topside I will want to tape off and repaint the stripe. I've not seem Rustoleum in blue. Any recommendations...

    Topside drain plug stuck

My 1981 Sunfish does not sound like it has water inside yet I still want to be able to open the top side drain plug - it has a flat head screw fitting. The plug is frozen shut. I tried WD40 and tapping the top of the screw driver placed on the screw to loosen it. Tried vice grips on the...

Sunfish sheet blocks on the boom.

I have a Sunfish with 2 replacement sheet blocks on the boom. the old blocks were never removed. Is it okay to race in Sunfish races with non standard blocks? Also how do I remove the old ones? Cut them off somehow (how?) or drill out the rivets holding them in place and re-revit?

Wax after painting Bottom of Sunfish?

Thanks, I guess your point is that waxing top side would make it too slippery.

Wax after painting Bottom of Sunfish?

I applied Rustoleum marine primer and then top side semi-gloss paint on my 1981 Sunfish. 2nd coat coming soon. Afterwards when can I wax the bottom?

    1981 Sunfish parts

I see the bridle went from a center loop to connect to the sheet to no loop/full traveler. wouldn’t that improve downwind tacks and hamper how high you can point?

Chrome handle on the bow heavily pitted

I have a mount (see photo) on the bow below the rub rail I will remove. Planning on using epoxy to fill the screws holes, or is Marinetex a better choice?

Chrome handle on the bow heavily pitted

Very helpful tip. Thanks. In a similar vein I may remove the rudder mount from the transom while I paint the bottom. Do I need to take the same precaution there?

Which dagger board do I want to keep?

In your photo is the Barrington the long one on the right? I have 3 boards, 2 shot and one long. Will have to inspect and photo to determine what I have and which to use. I’d like the deeper one will point better. Are they all accepted in most small local races?

Chrome handle on the bow heavily pitted

My SF is a 1981 I recovered from an abandoned state. the chrome handle on the bow is heavily pitted. Fixing or replacing it is not high on my list but is a to-do I intend to deal with. Do I replace it? Where can you find and how hard would it be to swap it out? Or, is it possible to repair it?
